Discovery Park Engagement Session

Discovery Park is one of those rare places that holds the best of the Pacific Northwest in one vast sweep of land — forest, meadow, bluff, and beach all meeting at the edge of the city. A Discovery Park Engagement Session feels like stepping into a space that’s both wild and composed, a living landscape that shapes itself around the people inside it. The light shifts constantly here — filtered and soft through the trees, golden and cinematic along the bluffs — and the result is a session that feels alive, effortless, and deeply romantic.

What makes this park so special is its sense of history. Long before it became Seattle’s largest city park, the land was home to the Duwamish people, who lived along the waters of what’s now called Puget Sound. In 1900, the U.S. Army established Fort Lawton on the site, and for decades, the bluffs were lined with barracks, training grounds, and the hum of military life. By the 1970s, the city reclaimed the land and opened Discovery Park as a sanctuary — a place meant for reflection, community, and connection with the natural world. That transformation is what gives the park its quiet depth. Every trail carries a sense of memory, and every open field feels like freedom reclaimed.

When photographing here, I always start in the forest, where the filtered light creates intimacy — the kind that makes every laugh and glance between you feel private. From there, the trail opens to sweeping views of the Sound and the Olympic Mountains, and the air seems to change. It’s as if the space itself wants to celebrate you.

For couples who crave authenticity, movement, and the soft hum of nature around them, Discovery Park is a dream. It’s less about posing and more about presence — the kind of place where love feels grounded, timeless, and utterly alive.
